Constructed between 1867 and 1872 to a design by Edinburgh architects, Peddie & Kinnear, the Town House is the civic heart of Aberdeen. The beautiful entrance leads to a stunning spiral staircase from which the ornate civic rooms on the second floor can be accessed. The building is also home to the city’s UNESCO-recognised archive.

Aberdeen Trades Union Council, John Londragan House

The Aberdeen Trades Union Council is the body made up of affiliated trade union branches and organisations in the Aberdeen and Shire area. The Council was formed in 1868 and is still going strong, playing an important role as it continues to support workers in these challenging times. The space is also home to Aberdeen Social Centre which is an activist support and networking hub. The aim of the Centre is to build the capacity of and the connections between grassroots community activism.

Established in 1929, Albury Community Sports Hub in Ferryhill provides facilities for tennis, lawn bowls, petanque, and is the only 18 hole putting green in Aberdeen. This Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation is proudly run by Volunteers working collaboratively with the Community and Sport Aberdeen. Albury Community Sports Hub is a welcoming oasis, home to Tennis Teams, Croquet Club, Walk Aberdeen, and Wellbeing group. It is accessible and open to all.

Cruickshank Botanic Garden

Founded in 1898, the Cruickshank Botanic Garden is situated in Old Aberdeen on the King's College campus of the University of Aberdeen and is a partnership between the University and the Cruickshank Charitable Trust. The Garden exists to promote an appreciation of the beauty, diversity and importance of plants, and an understanding of their role in the natural world. This beautiful and peaceful 4.5 hectare (11-acre) Garden offers year-round interest to visitors. It has shrub borders, a rock and water garden, sunken garden, rose garden, herbaceous border and an arboretum, and houses a nationally important collection of more than 2500 taxa.

Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust

The former Ferryhill Depot is the site of the Ransome and Rapier turntable, restored in 2019, still being used to turn visiting steam engines. We also have the restored 1855 original engine shed, which is a functioning workshop. This shed holds several waggons under restoration. Our latest completed project is the former office building, containing a small museum, and water tower. We are a Volunteer run Charity.

Freemasons Hall in Crown Street is a purpose built Masonic building and was completed in 1910 and is a listed building both in and out. There are many architectural features in the several rooms in the building especially the plasterwork on the ceilings are to be admired.

The main building was built in the 1860s by Architect William Smith (whose initials are carved on a stone underneath the small front windows) and was opened in 1868. It is built of grey granite and sandstone, with red and black granite stones around the arches and window openings. It was granted Grade B Listed Status in 1990. The building originally had accommodation for 1200. It is in the early decorated Gothic style.

Kirk of St Nicholas

The original church, known as 'The Mither Kirk dated from 1151 and was one of the largest medieval churches in Scotland. One of the most historically important buildings in Aberdeen. With some surviving elements from the late 12th century in the transepts and central crossing, it has been gradually altered through the centuries to become a large, prominent feature in the city landscape. The West Church is thought to be the only remaining Gibbs building in Scotland and its interior is particularly noteworthy as a rare, largely unaltered 18th century survival.

The Sir Duncan Rice Library

The Sir Duncan Rice Library was opened in September 2012. Designed by Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen, this award-winning building is an iconic architectural landmark of Northeast Scotland. It is the University’s main library, with 7 floors for use by students, staff and others. The University Collections Research Room is located on the lower ground floor, providing access to rare books, manuscripts and archives. The ground floor is a welcoming space, open to all, with a café, the University Collections exhibition gallery and branch of Aberdeen city libraries.

The Zoology Museum

The Zoology Building at the University of Aberdeen, opened in 1970, is a Brutalist-style structure located on St Machar Drive, next to the Cruickshank Botanic Garden. It houses the School of Biological Sciences and the University's Zoology Museum. The Zoology Museum has displays that are worldwide in scope, from protozoa to the great whales, including taxidermy, skeletons, fluid-preserved specimens and models. Visitors are welcome and there is no charge for admission.

Wallace Tower

The Wallace Tower is a fortified town house built in the early 1600s in the Netherkirkgate. It was saved from demolition during development of the city centre, and moved to Tillydrone in 1965. The Tillydrone Community Development Trust have taken ownership of the building through a community asset transfer and are in the process of developing the building as a community space.
