St Mary's Chapel - OpenSpace Trust
Aberdeen City
St Mary’s Chapel is a chantry chapel build around the middle of the 15th century prior to the expansion of the Kirk building above. Restoration work has been taking place over the past 6 years or so and it is now complete.
There is now wheelchair access, gypsum plaster replaced with lime mortar, rewired, wood panels restored and new lighting.
This is an opportunity to come and see what the OpenSpace Trust has achieved. The Chapel will be open for visitors with wardens available to answer questions. There will also be a loop-type video presentation and a self-guided tour sheet if preferred.
Guided tours may be available.
Dr Abeer Eladany from the University of Aberdeen will give 30 minute talks starting at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 15:00. The talks will be about the archaeological dig of 2006 at the East Sanctuary of the Kirk of St Nicholas and some of the dramatic findings.
