Toogs Artist Workshop, Burra
Shetland
Gaada is an artist-led social enterprise building an inclusive, world-class creative space in Shetland. We believe creativity belongs to everyone and with the right tools and support, people thrive!
We will be holding an open studio day, inviting folk to visit Toogs Artist Workshop and learn about Gaada’s Work, Community and Future. Interactive aspects will include an outdoor exhibition display, drop in printmaking activities to get involved in, an artist talk and our Island Zine Library to explore. As well as this we will have editions and publications for sale from the Gaada shop.
Revive: We'll be showcasing our letterpress facilities, demonstrating Gaada's commitment to reviving this endangered craft and making facilities accessible to Shetland artists.
Resist: Our zine library display will highlight publications that celebrate and preserve Shetland's history, community, and heritage. As well as publications from sections in our Library on protest, LGBTQ+ stories, neurodiversity women nature, islands and more!
Reimagine: Our exhibition will feature new commissioned work by artist and food scientist Jenny Watt. Drawing on Shetland's unique ecology, Jenny has developed a series of recipes for plant-based pigments, creating a contemporary visual reference for artists working with local materials.
