The Bridges Archaeology Collection, University of St Andrews
Step into a virtual world of archaeology this Doors Open Day at the University of St Andrews and discover a collection of over 180 Cypriot artefacts ranging in date from the Bronze Age to the Byzantine period! The ‘Bridges Archaeology Collection’ was donated to the University in 1994 by Fife resident, Mrs Bridges, and is used regularly in research, teaching and public events, inspiring creative writing, drama and art.
Artefacts include delicate perfume bottles, smoke-stained oil lamps, figurines of deities, priests and worshippers, votive offerings and jewellery. Together they provide fascinating glimpses into the ancient world – from trade, technology and consumption, to burial, beliefs and artistic expression.
Check out our Sketchfab site to view these objects in 3D! Can you guess which bottle was used for cleansing after a visit to the gym? And which was used to feed a baby? You can also learn about our current research areas, ranging from digital modelling to archaeology, museums and wellbeing via the links below!
