Alloa Community Shed

Alloa Community Shed is based in Marshill House, an early 19th century villa. It was probably built c1820 as a family home - in 1828 it was owned by a Captain Stupart -  and was altered and extended later. It has several interesting architectural features, including an entrance portico with Doric columns; south bay windows which had been added by the later 1850s; north bay window extensions supported on columns; interior  decorative marble columns and plasterwork, fireplaces and a fine encaustic tiled entrance hall.

Marshill House and its western neighbour Marcelle once overlooked extensive gardens to the north, but these have long disappeared.  The former lodge of Marshill House stands to the east; modified in the late 19th century, it houses a busy pharmacy.

Marshill House passed into local authority ownership during the 20th century. It was the home of the county Registry until 2014, then was let for short periods or stood empty.  Alloa Community Shed acquired it in 2025 and is in the process of repairing and renovating the building, with the aim of removing some recent unsympathetic  alterations, making up for the years of neglect and restoring it to something approaching its former glory.
