Digi Doors Open Round Up 13: Learn From Home Edition Part 2!

Keep the kids from driving you up the wall with this week's edition of #DigiDoorsOpenRoundup!

The doors may have closed on #DigiDoorsOpen this year, but that doesn't mean that the fun has to stop! Each week we will be creating a themed roundup of our digital resources so that you can enjoy a virtual day out from home.

This week's theme is home learning! Are you looking to inject a little fun into your kid's home learning routine? With ties to the Curriculum for Excellence, these resources can help them learn about archeology, art history, design, Scotland's industrial history and science too!

This week's venues cover Fife, Glasgow and North Lanarkshire

Fife

Save Wemyss Ancient Caves Society: Let your kids explore Pictish carvings and Victorian graffiti with these 4D tours of six coastal caves! Today, these ancient caves and the histories that they hold, are under threat from the weather, industrial action and vandalism.

Glasgow

Glasgow Museums Resource Centre: Join Dr Jo Meacock, Curator of British Art at Glasgow Museums, as she introduces you to the treasures of the painting store. Boasting around 3,000 oil paintings, this store contains 75% of Glasgow Museum's collection and features portraits, landscapes, still life's, abstract works and so much more!

North Lanarkshire

Summerlee Museum of Industrial Scottish Life: More than 50 years before the Scottish inventor James Watt was building his famous steam engine, the Frame Colliery engine was burning up the competition. In it's prime, the engine could lift coal from 80 meters down in just 35 seconds!

The Scottish Civic Trust have also developed some wonderful kid friendly resources that you can check out over lockdown.

Stone, Sea and Sky Toolkit: Have your neighbourhood walks become a wee bit boring? Why not use your daily outing to explore your built environment and reflect on what you discover! Stay safe and scout out your local area, you never know what you might uncover.

Cut Fold Build Toolkit: Transform your living room carpet into a Scotland in miniature with this amazing resource! With 11 models of Scottish buildings to construct, you can be transported all over the country without stepping a foot outside.

See you next week for our next instalment of #DigiDoorsOpenRoundup!
