Stirling Civic Trust at Cowane’s Hospital

Civic Trusts were established in Scotland in 1967, following an English lead in 1957, and Stirling Civic Trust started in 1977. At this time a huge building program was in place after the Second World War and some buildings of historic interest were being demolished to make way for new build. The remit for the Trusts was to monitor planning applications to ensure that wherever possible, buildings of heritage interest and significance were preserved and/or restored. The key aims of Stirling Civic Trust are to: encourage high standards of architecture, planning and landscape design in the City of Stirling and its surroundings and; to encourage the preservation of existing features of architectural or historic interest and the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity.
