WHO COORDINATES DOORS OPEN DAYS IN THE HIGHLANDS?

Highlands Coordinator Alison Tanner

Alison Tanner, Project manager, Inverness City heritage Trust

Highlands - covering all 5 weekends in September;

Inverness and the surrounding area (31st August - 1st September)

Black Isle, Cromarty and Easter Ross (7th - 8th September)

Caithness (14th - 15th September)

Badenoch and Strathspey (21st - 22nd September)

Badenoch and Strathspey (28th - 29th September)

I've been coordinating DOD in the Highlands since 2016.  The event was previously organised by The Highland Council but with budget cuts, the event was axed in 2015.  Recognising the importance of the event through previous involvement in Glasgow, I stepped in as a temporary measure and 4 years on here I am.

I love the challenge of convincing owners that people really would like to see inside their property and the reaction of visitors when they get inside.  Geography is our biggest challenge but seeing people clutching the brochure and exploring something new each weekend is worth it.

Our Highlights for Doors Open Days 2019 are two linked buildings – Inverness Sheriff Court at Inverness Castle for the last time ever and hard hat tours of the new Justice Centre for Inverness, due to open in 2020.
