Aberdour Lapidarium

19 September 2026 (11:00 - 17:00)

20 September 2026 (11:00 - 17:00)

West Fife

In Person

After a successful Doors Open Day last year we are looking forward to another chance for the public to see the Lapidarium.  A display of over one hundred carved copies of mediaeval and Pictish stones from all over Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Gotland, and Norway.

This will be a rare opportunity to see this collection of 130 replicas of predominantly Pictish and mediaeval
carved stones from Britain and Ireland. They were carved on sandstone based on the originals by sculptor Leslie Reid, who used them as templates for cloth-rubbings which were sold in outlets such as the National Museum of Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland.

The sculptor will be on hand to discuss and explain the designs on the stones and where and when the originals were created.

A Lapidarium is a place where stone monuments and fragments of archaeological interest are exhibited !
