West Dunbartonshire
In Person
The history of this building is quite extraordinary. Old photos show a fish monger occupying the front shopfront. External stairs reached up from the pavement allowing the occupants and visitors direct access to the upper level. There used to be a private quay at the rear onto the Leven with trade being taken through the vaulted close to one side.
The modern extensions have aimed at a complimentary scale. Their green glazed facades and roofs allude to the clusters of buildings that originally stood here; the green colour inspired by the patina of time.
