Refractive CIC is a community interest company based within the former Paisley Liberal Club in Paisley town centre. The venue provides flexible creative space for artists, filmmakers, performers, community groups and local organisations. It includes gallery, exhibition, workshop, meeting and studio spaces, supporting creativity, collaboration, skills development and cultural activity while preserving and bringing new life to an important historic building in the heart of the town.

Refractive CIC is proud to be reopening the historic, listed Paisley Liberal Club, bringing a significant heritage building back into active community use. After a period of underuse, the building is being revived as a vibrant cultural hub, ensuring its history is preserved while reimagining its future. By opening its doors to artists, performers, filmmakers and the wider community, we are demonstrating how historic spaces can be given a new purpose, protecting local heritage through creative use rather than allowing it to fall into decline. This reflects the 2026 European Heritage Days theme, Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine, by celebrating the restoration, resilience and continued relevance of an important part of Paisley's built heritage.

The venue is currently hosting Kevin Mack's Impossibly Weird exhibition, showcasing contemporary visual art and demonstrating the building's role as an accessible cultural space while bringing new life to a significant historic building in the heart of Paisley

Additional Access Information

The main disabled accessible entrance to Refractive CIC is via the rear entrance at 27 School Wynd, Paisley, which provides step-free access to the ground floor.  As the building is currently undergoing renovation and restoration works, accessible toilet facilities are not yet available. We apologise for this temporary limitation and appreciate visitors' understanding as we continue to improve the accessibility of this important listed building. Visitors with specific access requirements are encouraged to contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate their needs.
