Paisley - Stanely House Paisley (YWAM Paisley)

Stanely House was built in 1891 by the Coats family, renowned Victorian industrialists who owned the world’s largest thread-making company. George and Mary Coats lived in the house with their family and built houses for their children on their surrounding land. After being sold in the late 1920s, Stanely House was then owned by another prestigious family, Archibald and Elizabeth Speirs, and their children and grandchildren. After they died the house then became the property of the local council and in 1953 was turned into an elderly care home, while the surrounding land was built up into a residential area.
In 1992, the Christian charity YWAM (Youth With A Mission) acquired Stanely House and has owned it ever since, offering a variety of training programs for children, youth, and young adults.
We will be collecting stories from anyone who has them from our building over the years to preserve the links to the part Stanely House has played in the history of Paisley and Scotland.
We will share ways for the public to be involved in our restoration and reimagining of the property, such as donating to the proposed energy efficient 'air to air' heat pump system and secondary glazing on the ground floor.
Stanely House will be open to visitors, featuring guided tours and engaging activities for children. There will also be some displays about the history of the house and reservoir, along with refreshments and guided roof visits.
*Our volunteers will accompany groups of maximum 8 people to the roof, from where you can enjoy splendid views in all directions.

Parking is available, and it’s just a short walk from the bus stops for the number 26 or 61 buses departing from Paisley Centre.
