This building was once a part of the cotton mill industry and underwent a successful renovation in 2001 with the the help of the Princess Trust.
A former J&P Costs employee, who helped develop embroidery projects for one of Paisley’s most famous companies is set to share her memories and expertise at a special event next week.
Tricia McKinnon will be the guest speaker at our Doors Open Day on 5th September 2026. At 1pm.
During her talk, Tricia will share stories from her time working in the needlework section of J&P Coats and explain how embroidery and tapestry designs were developed using the company’s threads.
Reflecting on her career, Tricia said: “I learnt all my embroidery skills from working in J&P Coats head office. There are very many different types of embroidery which are all very interesting – from free style to cross stitch, as well as coarse tapestries and carpet making.
“Our company promoted their embroidery threads well and placed articles in magazines. We also produced many books with designs for people to follow.”
John Alexander of the Anchor Mill Owners’ Association said the talk would offer a fascinating insight into a major part of the town’s industrial heritage.
