The Walled Garden (PKAVS)

Historic Walled Garden in the grounds of Murray Royal, established to feed the tenants of Pitcullen House. The garden is now leased from the NHS by PKAVS a local charity, supporting people from Perth and Kinross in their recovery from poor mental health and wellbeing issues by providing meaningful activity.
The Walled Garden was created in the grounds of The James Murray Royal lunatic asylum. Although the terminology has changed and medicine has advanced in the treatment of people and their mental health, the use of gardening and being outside amongst nature, using art and creativity remains the same.
The gardens historic wall which provides, shelter sanctuary and warmth. Used to grow fruits and vegetables for Pitcullen house which is located a short walk from the garden. The garden’s evolution over the years, new buildings, making our own heritage, the mix of old and new. Celebrating our diverse space.
For Doors Open Days visitors will have the opportunity to visit the Walled Garden, see its beauty and enjoy its heritage, read our visitor interpretation and chat to staff. The café will be open for food and drinks.
