Gleneagles House

19 September 2026 (11:00 - 15:00)

Perth & Kinross

In Person
2026 Theme

The present house and surrounding landscape are part of a much larger XVIII century design that was never completed. This incomplete transition from tower house (Gleneagles Castle, presently a ruin) to mansion house (Gleneagles House) mirrors the Haldanes’ centuries-long struggle to survive the great sweeps of Scotland’s history. From covenanters to bishops; from East India captains to Evangelical missionaries, from Darien promoters to Union signatories; from Dunbar victims to Camperdown victors, the Haldanes of Gleneagles invite you to share in their (often humorous) family tale of triumph in the face of adversity, tragedy and loss.

For Doors Open Days there will be guided tours of Gleneagles, home to the Haldanes and adjoining family chapel, as well as opening of the garden and opportunity to roam the Gleneagles stretch of the ancient drovers road. The tour will touch upon the lives of family members who have contributed to exchanges in religious and political beliefs.

We’re hosting 2 tours on Saturday 19 of September, the first at 11am, the second at 3pm. Please come down the main drive and at the chapel turn left towards the House, where there will be parking available.
