Tour: Sustainable flats – sustainable communities

Edinburgh

Do you want to learn more about the role you can play in making Scotland’s tenement buildings more sustainable?

Join our Doors Open Days walking tour of tenement buildings in Portobello. The tour will be led by Mike Heffron, Chief Executive of Under One Roof, Scotland’s only charity dedicated to supporting tenement flat owners with common repairs, and architect Joanne McClelland, a leading voice for making tenement buildings sustainable.

Guests will be met outside the Scotmid on Bath Street, where you will be taken on a short walk of the tenements that lead to the beach before finishing at the Edinburgh Tool Library.. As you walk through rows of historic sandstone tenement buildings, you will learn about maintenance and management issues that affect these buildings, and how you can help keep your tenement building standing strong into the future.

The tour will include a discussion about the barriers and opportunities to transitioning to zero carbon heating systems in flats, and end with information about what local community groups, including the Portobello Retrofitters, are doing to engage residents one-on-one to help them with low and no-regret retrofit solutions to their homes.
