Richard Murphy’s House

The architect Richard Murphy’s own house was finished in 2015 and it won a Saltire design award, an RIBA national award, EAA Building of the year award, Architects Journal UK house of the Year, Civic Trust National award and the RIBA/Channel 4 UK House of the Year and was featured on Channel 4. However, it continues to attract interest today. Over the years it has been the subject of various books and films including a recent film by “Nostalgia” which has been seen by more than 400,000 YouTube viewers. The celebrated architect, the late Bob Steedman OBE RSA of Morris and Steedman, described it as “the most important house built in Scotland since Mackintosh’s Hill House.”
Visitors will be guided around the house in groups of six. At any one time there will be two groups within the house. When queuing outside there is a detailed information sheet available about the house which acts as a guide for visitors and can be taken home.
