Edinburgh
Norton Park is a non-profit organisation, home to 29 charities and social enterprises in Edinburgh. We look after two historic buildings near the city centre and give them renewed purpose. Our business hub is a converted ex school building and provides affordable, serviced office space for third sector organisations. Next door, the conference centre, housed in two repurposed churches, has meeting and event space for hire, open to any business, charity or group.
Activities:
Fully accessible guided tours of the old school building start on the hour, from 10am.
11am and 1pm: The architect who undertook the conversion from school to business hub will deliver a talk about the history and eco credentials of the building.
In the conference centre, we will be showing the short 1950s film, ‘The Singing Street’. This was created by a teacher at Norton Park and shows schoolchildren playing games and singing traditional songs in the local area.
12pm: In the conference centre, a local historian – Andy Arthur from Threadinburgh – will speak about the significance of The Singing Street film and its relationship to Norton Park School.
2026 Theme: Heritage at Risk:
The conversion from school to business centre retains the historic fabric of the 1900s building. Norton Park is also currently in consultation with the community, customers and other local stakeholders, to help us shape the reimagining of the conference space to one that is more useful for all users.
