The National Library of Scotland is the largest library in Scotland, with over 34 million items in our collections. Ranging from manuscripts, printed books, newspapers, magazines, sound and film collections, maps and more, our vast collections grow every day. Our building at Causewayside is an iconic piece of modern architecture, which was purpose built to house the library’s collections.

 

Guided tours of National Library of Scotland Causewayside Building

This Doors Open Day weekend, our friendly and knowledgeable staff are offering behind the scenes tours on Saturday 23rd September 2023. This will be a rare chance to discover the range of activities that take place at Causewayside.

Tours will include: the processing area for new acquisitions, our storage stacks, Digitisation Suite and the Maps Reading Room. 

Tours will last approximately an hour. There will be a Spot the Animal activity sheet available for any younger visitors. Places are limited, so please book in advance.

Tours will take place at: 12.00, 13:15, 14:30 and 15:45. Please book your place via Eventbrite

Please note that unfortunately due to an unforeseen building maintenance issue we can not accommodate wheelchair users for this event.
