Firefighting Through the Ages – Family Open Day
Join us in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre for a unique day celebrating the past, present, and future of firefighting.
Explore the Museum
Step inside our fascinating museum and discover the story of Scottish firefighting, from its earliest days to the modern era. Wander through five themed galleries filled with historic fire engines, vintage equipment, rare artefacts, and powerful tales of bravery and innovation.
Get Hands-On with Fire Engines
While the antique engines inside are delicate, the fire engines stationed outside in the courtyard are ready for you to climb aboard. This is a rare opportunity for both kids and adults to get up close and personal with real firefighting appliances.
Meet the Firefighters
Fire crews from McDonald Road Community Fire Station will be on site with their appliances, ready to engage with visitors, answer questions, and show you what it’s like to be a modern firefighter.
Fun for the Whole Family
Enjoy delicious food and drinks, and don’t miss the dress up station for your little firefighter!
