Greyfriars Kirk

27 September 2026 (14:00 - 17:00)

Edinburgh

In Person

Situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, Greyfriars Kirk was founded in 1620 and is the first church to be built in post-Reformation Edinburgh.

We are proud to be a welcoming and inclusive church to people of all faiths and none, responding to local needs.

The Kirk is also an important venue for the arts, a beautiful space for social events and a popular visitor destination, welcoming a record 120,000 visitors from all over the world last year.

The Kirk will be open to visitors of all ages and offers a varied visitor experience involving the following:

  • Kirkyard exhibition - 10 exhibition panels, new to the Kirk over the Summer, detailing the history and modern day influence of Greyfriars Kirkyard
  • Kirk Museum illustrates the Kirk’s important milestones and events, and displays some important objects from our history.
  • Kids ‘dog hunt’ around the Kirk with accompanying worksheet with colouring activities.
  • Volunteer-led guided group tours lasting for 30-45minutes.

Guided tours will be offered regularly from 2pm to 5pm.

As one of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Sites, Greyfriars Kirk directly relates to this theme.

Our recent addition to our visitor experience of our Kirkyard Exhibition Panels are a crucial step forward in improving how the story of this site is told. Being inside the Kirk, which is free to visitors to attend, information is financially accessible and offers a modern, professional artistic approach to conveying history.
