Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People
Edinburgh
In Person
We want to show families how a thoughtfully designed building, alongside an empathetic team of people can take the fear and worry from a hospital visit – for both children and their families.
Our NHS colleagues will show
- child-friendly simulations of some of the procedures and processes a child in hospital might face…
- from how a needle is inserted to take bloods;
- dispelling worries about going into an operation;
- how those with additional needs can be supported when coming to hospital.
- Visitors will also see some parts of the building not otherwise accessible to members of the public.
In our Hub and across the building, we will showcase:
- The range of distractions and activities available to all ages and interests – from pebble painting for penguins at the zoo to webcams to our VR headsets – you can have go!
- How we use the space to meet families’ needs – meetings with parents to talk through financial advice; a cosy sensory corner for long term inpatients; space for parents to relax; a craft table for active imaginations.
There will be opportunities to ask questions and to see how our teams bring reassurance, and the extra comfort and support that so many families need.
