This seven acres of semi-woodland garden on the steep banks of the Water of Leith in central Edinburgh was founded in the 1860s by local residents. The Dean Gardens contains part of the great structure of the Dean Bridge, a Thomas Telford masterpiece of 1835. There are lawns, paths, trees, and shrubs with lovely views to the weir in the Dean Village and to St Bernard’s Well, and a children’s play-area.

There is step free access to the main path in the garden, but the steep gravel paths between levels may be difficult for wheelchair users.
There are a number of permanent benches and some seats in the gardens for visitors, and a few picnic tables.
There are no toilets in the gardens, but there are public toilets in nearby Stockbridge.

To access the garden please enter by the gates at Ann Street or Eton Terrace, both at the Dean Bridge end of the garden.
