Corstorphine Hill Tower

This is a historic folly built by the then landowner in 1871 the centenary of Sir Walter Scott's birth. It is built on the summit of the Hill from stone quarried from the Hill. It is about 20m high with a viewing platform which is just above the trees. It commands magnificent views of the city centre, the Firth of Forth, the Fife coast, and the Pentland Hills. On clear days the Bass Rock and Isle of May can be seen to the east and the bridges, the Ochills and the Trossachs to the west. It is situated in the woodland of Corstorphine Hill Local Nature Reserve, with many woodland paths to explore.

Visitors to Corstorphine Hill Tower will be given the opportunity to climb the spiral staircase inside the tower and take in 'the finest views that the eye can feast upon'.

Access to the viewing platform on top of the tower is via a spiral staircase. In total there are 100 steps to the top. 

Corstorphine Hill can be reached by bus (Lothian Busses number 26. Clerwood terminus on Clermiston Road at the bottom of the hill). 

On-street parking in the area is very limited.  

The Tower can be reached on foot via entrances to Corstorphine Hill on Corstorphine Road, Cairnmuir, Clermiston Road, Clermiston Road North, Queensferry Road, Hillpark Grove and the Ravelston area. 

Suitable footwear for hiking up the hill and climbing the tower is advisable. 

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. 

Dogs are not allowed inside the Tower.
