Westerkirk Parish Library

Our library is going through a period of revival. Our opening hours have increased and we have begun to reimagine our purpose, holding talks, a book club and more recently a metal detecting club. Those who live in the DG13 postcode can also borrow books and make recommendations for new purchases. This is in thanks due to the revenue raised by our trustees through applications to local funders and windfarms and through the generosity of local philanthropists, past and present. We have a fabulous social history and our library will be open and all the documents pertaining to the library’s history, available for the public to peruse. 

We also have the valuation Rolls for other buildings in the vicinity and the full sale details of the 1912 sale of the Westerhall Estate. Thanks to our Thomas Telford connection we have a vast collection of beautifully bound books that represent the range of interest and passions of the day. Our books are available to be handled and read within our beautiful building. Visitors will also be able to browse Thomas Telford’s Atlas, his autobiography and copies of letters to his friend Andrew Little. We also invite our visitors to relax in our grounds that overlook the Esk river in the timeless Westerkirk Valley 

All visitors to the library will be given an introduction and an overview of the library prior to enjoying the building and its grounds.
