Ayrshire

In Person

This semi-ruinous castle was built by Robert Boyd about 1306 when the Barony of Portencross was granted him by Robert the Bruce. It consisted of a tower with a 5-storey wing. Robert II was a frequent visitor and signed charters here. It was abandoned in the 18th century. A major conservation project in 2010 enables access to the interior, including the Great Hall with original vaulted ceiling.

Guides will be on hand to provide information about the history of the castle.
