Loudon Kirk

Loudoun Kirk, built in 1198 was the original parish church of Loudoun. It fell into disrepair after the shift to the newly built Loudoun Church in Newmilns and was restored as a burial vault for the Earls of Loudoun and their family, incorporating the crypt under the floor. It is now in the care of the Friends of Loudoun Kirk and has close association with the S.A.S. who trained at Loudoun Castle and Darvel during the war. The Kirk is normally open to visitors on request.
Members of Friends of Loudon Kirk (FOLK) will be available to answer questions on local and family history.

Additional Access Information
A path surrounds the perimeter of the Kirkyard but the Kirk is only accessible across the grass. It is possible with assistance.
This is a 12th century building, there is no easy access, heating, water, toilets or electricity, candlelight is our only means of indoor lighting. Even without modern facilities, everyone is welcome
