Kilmaurs Jougs (also known as Kilmaurs Tollbooth) is a local landmark and listed building in the middle of Kilmaurs. It dates back to the early 18th century and has been used as a Council Chamber, Magistrates Court, lock up for petty criminals and fire station for the local horse drawn fire appliance. The ‘Jougs’ refer to the chains on the side of the building.

Kilmaurs Jougs has not been open regularly for many years but in 2025 a group local volunteers organised the reopening of the building on a regular basis.

For Doors Open Days there will be a display of historical photographs depicting historical Kilmaurs (provided by Dick Institute), plus  some local artifacts and information on the history of Kilmaurs. Volunteers will be present to talk to visitors and explain the display and the history of the building. The work of several local artists is also displayed.
