The Carnegie Library was built via a gift from Andrew Carnegie in 1893.  The Architects were Campbell Douglas and Morrison of Glasgow.  The exterior has an impressive red sandstone Renaissance-style frontage, best viewed from across the road. Later additions include the Non-Fiction Library, originally a reference Library and Lecture Hall designed by the distinguished Ayr firm of James Kennedy Hunter and opened in 1934.

Group guided tours of the library and Local History Collection will be held at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. There is also the option for a shorter self-guided tour.
