Visitors are invited to join a volunteer-led tour of the Skerryvore Lighthouse Shore Station at Hynish. The tour will introduce the history of the site, its role as the shore base for the construction of Skerryvore Lighthouse, and the stories of the people who lived and worked here. The visit will include an outdoor walk around the historic buildings and key features of the site, with opportunities to learn more about ongoing community care and conservation of this important maritime heritage place.
The site is a nationally important collection of historic lighthouse shore station buildings, now in community ownership, many of which require careful repair, renewal and sensitive adaptation. Through ongoing conservation and community stewardship, the Hynish Trust is helping to revive the stories, skills and buildings connected to Skerryvore; resist the pressures of weather, age, climate change and rural depopulation; and reimagine the site as a sustainable place for heritage, learning, culture and community use for future generations.
Tours will take place at 12pm and 4pm on September 19th and 20th. The self-guided trail, featuring interpretation boards, is open all day, as is the Skerryvore exhibition.
Please note access to the signal tower is only available on a tour.

The Signal Tower has no wheelchair access.
There are gravel paths and uneven ground on the trail/tour.
