Forfar & District Historical Society Guided Tour

Led by local historian, Norman Atkinson, this walk takes in the core of the medieval Royal Burgh of Forfar. 

'East ee toon, wast ee toon, doon the Spoot and hame' was how this was described by Forfarians of yesteryear. 

Meet at the Buttermarket between Town and County Hall and Municipal Buildings in Castle Street for 2pm on Sunday, 13 September. 

We will proceed along East High Street towards the ancient East Port, then turning westwards to the equivalent West Port. We then enter Castle Street taking in Manor Street and visiting the site of the Castle captured for King Robert in 1308 on Castlehill. We conclude at the Spoot at the end of Castle Street examining where the shores of the Loch anciently lapped the town.

Please allow 1 ½ to 2 hours for the walk.
