Make a stop at the Old Manse, a 220‑year‑old house closely associated with the neighbouring church and rich in local history. While rooted in a religious setting, the story of the Manse is ultimately one about people and their lives.

Visitors are warmly welcomed into the Manse—now a private residence—by its owner, whose engaging and traditional storytelling brings the past vividly to life. Using images, illustrations, artefacts and video, the talk explores the origins of the church and Manse and the lives of the ministers who lived there.

Particular focus is given to the first minister, James Robertson, and his children, who went on to achieve remarkable success. The story also reveals intriguing coincidences between the Manse’s first resident and its present owner.

The talk takes place in one of the rooms within the house, creating an intimate and immersive experience that has proved a highlight of previous Doors Open Days.
