The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses and Kinnaird Head Castle Lighthouse

Visit Kinnaird Head Castle and Lighthouse, the first lighthouse built on mainland Scotland in 1787, and explore the purpose-built museum located alongside it.

The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses tells the story of the Northern Lighthouse Board, the engineers who designed and built the lights, and the keepers who maintained them. It is a story of skill, courage, technical innovation and outstanding organisation.

On Doors Open Day, both the museum and Kinnaird Head Castle and Lighthouse will be free to visit, offering a rare opportunity to experience this nationally important site.

  • No booking required however tickets for guided lighthouse tours will be available to collect from the museum building
  • Visitors are advised to park in the museum car park while attending both venues.
