New Aberdour Church

Aberdeenshire

Built in 1818 and designed by Aberdeen architect John Smith, New Aberdour Church is a striking example of early 19th-century architecture.

The church is currently being revitalised by the Friends of New Aberdour Church Pilgrimage and Heritage Initiative, who are working to preserve the building while creating a welcoming space for community, heritage and pilgrimage activities. The initiative places strong emphasis on preserving both the built heritage of this 200-year-old building and the cultural heritage of the surrounding area and wider northeast of Scotland.

Throughout the year, the church hosts a range of social and cultural events. For Doors Open Days, visitors can explore a variety of displays and activities celebrating local heritage, creativity and wellbeing.

Heritage displays include fishing and farming memorabilia, alongside the story of St Drostan, who is believed to have arrived by sea at Aberdour to bring Christianity to Scotland.
