Mill of Benholm

**RETURNING IN 2026**

The Mill of Benholm is a rare and remarkably complete Category A Listed water-powered meal mill, cared for by the community organisation Mill of Benholm Enterprise (MoBE). One of only a small number of historic working water mills to survive intact, the site offers visitors a fascinating insight into Scotland’s rural and industrial heritage.

At the heart of the site is the restored waterwheel and milling machinery, demonstrating how the power of water was harnessed to grind grain for local communities. Visitors can follow the route of the burn through the mill grounds and discover how water is channelled into the mill pond before turning the wheel. The surrounding site includes attractive grounds, a community garden and a network of paths through ancient woodland linking the mill to the car park.

MoBE was established to preserve this important historic site for future generations while restoring it as a community hub. Through conservation, interpretation and community involvement, the project ensures that the mill’s history and traditional skills continue to be shared and enjoyed.

The site also includes the popular Café at the Mill, run by volunteers, serving artisan cakes, wholesome lunches, teas and coffees.
