Step back in time and discover what life may have been like in Kemnay over 11,000 years ago. This exhibition showcases the findings from archaeological investigations at Boatley’s Farm, Kemnay, exploring evidence of Mesolithic communities who lived on the banks of the River Don between 9000 and 5000 BC.
Presented by the Mid Grampian Mesolithic Community Archaeology Group, the exhibition brings to life the world of Scotland’s early hunter-gatherers through artefacts, displays and interactive activities. Visitors can learn about the evidence uncovered during local fieldwork and excavations, including stone tools and traces of temporary camps used by people who regularly returned to the area thousands of years before Kemnay existed.
Through information panels, photographs, replica artefacts and hands-on exhibits, the exhibition encourages visitors to reimagine daily life in Mesolithic Aberdeenshire and discover how archaeologists uncover evidence of these early communities.

The venue is a short easy walking distance (400m) from Kemnay’s bridge over the River Don, from which there is a good upstream view of the Mesolithic archaeological site on the banks of the River Don.
