Books Abroad is a charity that recycles good-quality donated books from schools, colleges and libraries, redistributing them to educational establishments worldwide in response to specific requests for support. These books provide a valuable resource, improving literacy and supporting education, which in turn helps to alleviate poverty.

At the Rhynie warehouse, volunteers sort, select and package books, preparing them for shipment overseas. Recycling these books gives them a useful second life while helping to reduce landfill.

Visitors are invited to come along during Doors Open Days to see behind the scenes at Books Abroad.

Activities:

• Take a guided look around the warehouse
• See how donated books are sorted, selected and packaged
• Speak with volunteers about the charity’s work
• Donate suitable books (please check the website for requirements)
• Browse a selection of specialist books, available for a small donation
