Ballater Street Furniture Walking Tour

Join street furniture expert Dr Steve Johnson for a fascinating walk around Ballater looking at the variety of often overlooked marks and structures which are to be found on our streets. Beginning at the iconic red telephone kiosk this walking tour will visit letterboxes, street signs, wall plates and marks and many more obscure features. After the tour participants will have the skills to spot, date and understand these features in their own village or town.

This walking tour shows participants how often insignificant marks and structures around a village or town can give vital clues to understand how to age an area and to discover how an area was used. Many letterboxes and telephone kiosks date back to the 19th and 20th century and so are valuable in use elements of living heritage.

Suitable for adults and children, the tour runs on both Saturday and Sunday at 2pm and will end with a private viewing of an item in Steve’s street furniture collection. Approx 90 mins.
