Alford Valley Community Railway
Aberdeenshire
The Alford Valley Community Railway is a narrow-gauge railway and popular community attraction that runs between Alford village centre and Haughton Country Park. Operated by the Alford Valley Charitable Community Benefit Society (AVCCBS), the railway is a successful community-led project that has brought a much-loved local attraction back into operation through significant funding and volunteer effort.
Created and run by the community for the benefit of both residents and visitors, the railway offers a unique opportunity to experience a heritage-style journey through the Alford countryside while learning about the redevelopment of the railway and the investment that has helped secure its future.
During Doors Open Days, visitors can enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the railway, discover how the project was delivered, and explore areas that are not normally accessible to the public. A train ride between Alford Station and Haughton Country Park completes the experience, making this a great day out for families, railway enthusiasts and anyone interested in community-led heritage projects.
