Holy Trinity Scottish Episcopal Church, Elgin (5 September)

This year, Holy Trinity Scottish Episcopal Church in Elgin celebrates its 200th anniversary. As part of Doors Open Days Festival 2026, visitors are invited to explore this historic building and discover the stories, people and craftsmanship that have shaped its history.

Special anniversary activities will include a self-guided trail around the church, highlighting key points of interest, as well as a dedicated trail for younger visitors. Families can also enjoy a children's corner with activities and entertainment. Throughout the church, visitors will be able to listen to recorded memories shared by members of the congregation and view a newly commissioned textile wall hanging, created as a lasting legacy of this milestone year.

Among the church's most remarkable features are its three sets of stained-glass windows, designed by renowned artist James Ballantine and his sons between 1876 and 1883. The self-guided trail will provide further insight into the history and significance of these beautiful works.

There is plenty more to discover, including an intricate piece of embroidery rescued from a church in France after being damaged by bullets during the First World War. Visitors can also seek out the mirror inscribed with the names of Sunday School children and admire the church's magnificent organ, which continues to be played every Sunday.

After exploring, relax with tea, coffee and cake in the church hall. Commemorative mugs and tote bags, specially commissioned to mark the bicentenary celebrations, will also be available to purchase.
