The Art Deco Theatre complex and library were gifts from the people of Edinburgh to the people of Leith, following the decision on the 10th October 1920 to incorporate the Burgh of Leith into Edinburgh. Works commenced in 1929, and the Theatre opened in 1932. It suffered bomb damage in 1941 and has spent much of its life in dereliction. Now, Leith Theatre is becoming a lively creative hub for Leith under the stewardship of Leith Theatre Trust.
