The site of the building dates to a Medieval hospital which inspired the street names in the surrounding area, although it is best known for its use in recent history as a Victorian swimming baths. The baths were converted in 2008 to house the Dovecot Tapestry Studio and Gallery. Visitors can explore the Tapestry Studio Viewing Balcony and see the current tapestries that are on the looms as well as marvel at the original architecture of the baths building. On the Viewing Balcony, the exhibition ‘Built In Tapestry’ explores the relationship between tapestry and innovative architecture.
