In Person
2026 Theme

Granton Castle Walled Garden has stood on the coast of north Edinburgh since the turn of the 16th century and is managed by the community. It is a historic green-space where anyone can volunteer or visit.

The Friends of Granton Castle Walled Garden run four volunteer and two visitor sessions per week, alongside a wide range of seasonal workshops (wreath-making, eco-therapy, flower arranging, polytunnel building, tree planting, wassailing). The community garden is a space for collaborative charities to run sessions and hosts a number of social enterprises, including a flower farm, a mushroom farm, and a dye-plant enterprise.

There will be garden history walks and talks at 1:45pm, 2:30pm and 3:15pm starting from the gatehouse and led by one of our longstanding trustees.

Facilities
Additional Access Information

The garden has fairly level paths with only a slight incline between the upper (southside) garden and the lower market garden side. Please note the toilet is a composting toilet. It is not an ‘accessible’ toilet. Limited on street parking on West Shore Road. The Garden is just off Spiers Bruce Cycle Path which leads down from bus stops opposite No1 Waterfront Avenue to West Shore Road near The Pitt. Since The Pitt opened, parking can be limited, but it should be possible to drop off someone with limited mobility up near the Social Bite housing (and then find parking). The interior of the Doocot is not accessible to anyone.
