Built in 1691, Panmure House is the final remaining home of economist and philosopher Adam Smith, who occupied the House from 1778 until his death there in 1790. During his tenancy, Smith completed the final editions of his magnum opus The Wealth of Nations, and regularly hosted key figures of the Scottish Enlightenment. Rescued and restored by Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, it is now a new centre for global economic and social debate, not normally accessible to the public.

Allan’s Primary School Beehive Bastion

The Bastion, part of medieval Stirling city wall defences. Some of the pupils of Allan's Primary School will lead informative tours of the school’s very own Scheduled Monument. The Bastion, sits on top of the Old Town Wall and forms part of the back wall of the playground behind the school is normally inaccessible to the public.

Alloa Community Shed

Alloa Community Shed is based in Marshill House, probably built c1820 as a family home and altered and extended later. It has several interesting architectural features. Both it and its western neighbour Marcelle once had extensive gardens to the north, but these are long gone. Marshill House passed into the ownership of the local authority during the 20th century. It was the home of the county Registry until 2014, then stood mostly empty, apart from occasional uses. until Alloa Community Shed acquired it in 2025 and began the process of repairing and renovating the building.

Alloa Hub

Alloa Hub is a community-owned and run facility in the centre of Alloa. It offers display retail space to the “Made in Clacks” range of locally made artisan gifts and goods for small businesses which do not have their own premises. A range of books on local and Scottish themes is also available and the facilities include What's On information for local people and visitors, a meeting/project room, public toilets and shower. Alloa Hub is also home to The Clackmannanshire Tapestry, a fascinating and colourful work stitched by local people as a response to the showing of The Great Tapestry of Scotland in the Speirs Centre in 2017. The tapestry, which is 2.5m long, depicts some of the most important industries of the county, as well as historic and cultural sites and attractions and many other features which held particular significance for the individual stitchers.
