Most urban Scots live in flats, and we’re all aware that these buildings can pose real challenges to residents when it comes to maintenance, energy efficiency, repairs and relations with neighbours and owners. These are urgent problems that we’ll be talking about in a series of free nationwide talks led by architects from the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. If you have a burning issue relating to looking after your tenement, watch this space for details on a talk taking place near you.
We’re also hosting a national conference on the bigger issues relating to tenements on 18 September in Glasgow’s The Lighthouse, in collaboration with Built Environment Forum Scotland and Under One Roof. We’ll be talking about sinking funds, owners’ associations and social investment, as well as looking at international best practice over the course of the day. We’ll be reflecting on the social impact of poor tenement maintenance through owners’ testimonies and artwork produced by Glasgow artist Mitch Miller in an accompanying exhibition.
Tickets are available through Eventbrite.
