Irvine: Scottish Maritime Museum

11 September 2021 (10am - 5pm)

12 September 2021 (10am - 5pm)

The Scottish Maritime Museum holds an important nationally recognised collection, encompassing a variety of historic vessels, artefacts, art, fascinating personal items and the largest collection of shipbuilding tools in the country.  The Museum in Irvine is housed within the vast, glass-roofed Victorian Linthouse.  This category A listed 'cathedral of Engineering' was formerly the Engine Shop of Alexander Stephen and Sons shipyard in Govan before being salvaged and relocated to Irvine in 1991.  Also at the site is the Museum's Boatshop, with views over to Arran, and the Boatbulding School Workshop.

Features a 1920s Shipyard Worker's Tenement Flat and the Fitting Shed.

Take a behind the scenes tour of the Scottish Maritime Museum's Boatbuilding School Workshop for Doors Open Days 2021. See how some of our wooden vessels are being restored using traditional craft techniques.  There will also be the opportunity to visit our fitting shed and see a 1950's Triple Expansion Engine running.

This year the Scottish Maritime Museum is also hosting the 'Doors Reopen Days' 2021 installation! Come tell us what Doors Open Days means to you as you marvel at these laser cut creations.
