Number 4 Old Castlegate is part of a three-storey, category B Listed mid-18th century townhouse. It was abandoned by its former owners in 1988 and rapidly fell into disrepair, suffering massive de-stabilisation and structural damage. Eventually Aberdeenshire Council took possession of the building via a Compulsory Purchase Order and took measures to stabilise it.
Building Date: mid 18th century
Last year ownership passed to the North East Scotland Preservation Trust who have co-ordinated and managed a restoration programme. This small "hidden" house, open today, contains the magnificent main staircase from the original house and offers wonderful views of Banff Bay and Macduff.
