Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust have put together a rich and varied programme that shines a spotlight on 36 venues across the area. Working in partnership with Perthshire Open Studios, Perth and Kinross Doors Open Days bring a week-long double festival of free access to view artistic venues, artists’ studios and their work. Follow the art and entertainment theme across Doors Open Days and Perthshire Open Studios as the region comes alive with art and architecture.
The Doors Open Days programme for Perth and Kinross runs over two weekends in September:
Architectural highlights in this year’s programme range from vernacular buildings to grand classical designs, and even transport infrastructure still under construction. Some venues have been recently refurbished and are keen to show why repairing our historic buildings is better than replacing them. Other venues are gearing up for new conservation work and welcome all the community interest and support they can get. A free talk on tenement repair and maintenance promises practical advice for home-owners and building professionals to assist in making appropriate repairs to traditional buildings in their care.
Many venues have sought to connect with this year’s theme of Arts and Entertainment, either through the craftsmanship vested in their building or a wealth of additional activities. On offer are guided tours and walks, craft activities and demonstrations, music recitals and theatrical performances. Please note that some events require advance booking or can only offer limited access.
A BSL interpreter signed tour will be available at the Perth & Kinross Council Buildings on Saturday 14th September at 14:30. A signed summary of this year's programme is available below.
New for the 2019 programme are venues shared with Perthshire Open Studios, in celebration of the synergy between art and architecture. Several venues host exhibitions, or a pop-up gallery, by artists and makers from the Perthshire Open Studios programme.
