The Lyell Centre is the home of earth and marine sciences in Scotland, bringing together scientists from Heriot-Watt University and the British Geological Survey. Come along and find out about our ground-breaking research through hand-on activities and exciting talks – from the tiniest creatures, to VR and robotics.   As part of the HW Year of the Sea, you can also get hands-on with sea creatures, explore the seafloor via the 3D Visualisation Centre and drive underwater robots.

YOYP: Letting young people get hands-on with cutting edge research and speaking to young researchers in STEM careers, to encourage young people, particularly women and people from deprived communities, to consider careers in STEM. 

Activities: Guided tours, re-enactments/performances, architectural models, video/audio presentations, displays of lots of exciting research, hands-on activities to learn about what scientists do.
