Doors Open Days isn't just about getting into buildings.  Events are wide-ranging and varied.  Walking tours are especially popular, as visitors get to know an area or village through the eyes of a local expert.

Description
Guided walk of 6-7 miles, taking 4-5 hours. Commences 10.30am at the West Highland Way Marquee, Milngavie Precinct. Will follow the Allander as far as Mugdock Castle (with access to the south-east tower). Thence to Craigend Castle, returning via Mugdock Reservoir. Participants are recommended to bring packed lunches.

Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park was formally designated in 1990. The Greenock Cut Visitor Centre is located on the west side of Loch Thom in the hills south of Greenock at the top of Shielhill Glen.

Join the rangers for a walk through the mixed woodland of Sheilhill Glen. Discover the remnants of sandstone quarrying from 1860-1885 in the area providing the stone for many of the buildings in Greenock Town Centre.

Activities

The walk will leave from the Greenock Cut Visitor Centre at 1pm and return at approximately 3pm.

Trace the history of Kirkcaldy through the lesser and better known characters buried in the graveyard; people like Baillie Robert Philp who set up schools for poor children in Kirkcaldy and find out who fought the last duel in Scotland!

Guided Walk: North Queensferry

Starting at the harbour light tower, now fully restored, the tour takes you round the historic village including access to St James's chapel ground and concludes at the Albert Hotel, where there is an information display on the light tower and the 'genius' of the Stevenson family in designing 96 other lighthouses in Scotland.

Boat trips are available from the pier throughout the afternoon.

Guided Walks: The Glen Walk

Be transported through 900 years of local and Scottish history through Dunfermline's famous Glen and Heritage Quarter.  Led by knowledgable Heritage Guides, the Walk is approximately 1 mile in length and lasts one hour and a quarter.
